An unclaimed carry bag dumped on the Khar railway foot over bridge sparked a bomb scare yesterday. Officials from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad were called in to verify the contents of the bag and only after many examinations was it revealed that the bag contained only a few clothes in it.
Around 2 pm yesterday, a passer-by spotted the bag on the eastern side of the foot over bridge.
Suspecting something amiss, he got scared and informed other passersby, which created a panic. Within minutes, a crowd had gathered around the bag, taking photographs of it.
The railway police and officials from Nirmal Nagar police station gathered at the spot and started their investigations.
After inspecting the bag from outside, the dog squad and the bomb detection officials were called in.
A sniffer dog was called in and after he signalled that there was no bomb two hours later, the bag was opened to check its contents and then taken to the Nirmal Nagar police station for further investigations.
Deputy Commissioner of police (Zone VIII) Namdev Chavan said, “There was nothing in the bag except clothes. It was brought from Bandra terminus and abandoned at the railway bridge. We are investigating the case further.”
