An unemployed IT graduate's plan to have some fun got him into serious trouble, as the prank proved too costly and landed him behind bars.

On May 29, Tushar Sawant (27), a resident of Vidyavihar, sent threatening mails to the CBI warning them of bomb blasts on August 13 across10 cities.

Acting on the mail, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) was alerted, which traced the IP address to Sawant's computer.

A team of ATS officials rushed over to Sawant's residence. "We arrested him and have handed him over to the Kurla police for further investigation," said ATS chief Rakesh Maria.

According to the ATS, on May 29, the CBI office in the city received an e-mail warning them of terror strikes in several places including Mumbai and New Delhi on August 13.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sawant had recently lost his job and was frustrated.

"During interrogation, Sawant appeared to be mentally unstable and disturbed. He gave vague answers and seemed disoriented," said a senior ATS official, on condition of anonymity.

Sawant told interrogators that he had carefully analysed previous terror strikes that had taken place before the compiling the mail. The officer revealed that Sawant had no sinister motive behind sending the mail.

"A thorough check on Sawant's credentials revealed that he does not have any prior criminal record and
further investigations are ongoing," added the officer.
