While many students did not get admission in any college, several were allotted bad colleges even after scoring well

Upset at online admission system, students, parents gather at education office

Mumbai: Even as state education minister Vinod Tawde announced that another round of online FYJC admissions (see box: Round 2 soon), hundreds of students and parents, upset at the online system, were at the office of Deputy Director of Education (DyDE).

Asif Chunawala, a parent, questioned, “Why were we asked to give options of 35 colleges in the preference list if we were not going to be given any betterment. My son’s friends who have scored below 70.5% have gotten admission to better colleges. My son was never given this chance even after scoring 77%. The traditional offline system was better in that case.”

Pranay Kamble, a student, is making rounds of help centre and DyDE office to ensure he gets admission to a college. “There was a genuine issue because of which I could not confirm my admission to allotted college in second round. But since then, I am making rounds of different offices expecting a solution to my problems. But nobody has a clear answer.”

Rupal Shah, complained how her son was allotted a college, which was his 18th preference and wasn’t given a betterment option. “We saw my son’s friends getting admissions to those colleges even after scoring lower than him. This is unfair and makes us question the transparency this online system boasts of.”
