An unidentified person pelted stones at MS Dhoni's house in the Harmu Housing Colony on Wednesday night. The incident occurred while Dhoni's family was at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium watching the fourth ODI. The fans were returning after the one-day international was called off due to heavy rain.
With the family not in residence, no one was injured in the stone pelting incident, and just one window was broken.
Many others seemed to be echoing the disgruntled outlook of the stone-throwing fan.
"We had come to watch Dhoni and Virat Kholi bat but India could not bat due to rain. We are disappointed," said Ronit.
Echoing his view, Amrit Raj said: "We spent money to watch our country's sensations Dhoni, Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan. We lost, both, money and an interesting match due to rain. We do not know when another match will again take place in Ranchi."
This is the fifth time that Dhoni's house has come under attack from fans. Dhoni's under-construction house was also attacked in 2007 when India lost a World Cup match against Bangladesh. Angry fans then demolished an under-construction wall of the house.
The fourth ODI was crucial for India as it is trailing the series 1-2.
A day after police ordered investigation into the breaking of a window pane of India captain's house here, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) on Thursday demanded to know who was behind the 'dirty' work.
"By and large sports lovers and people of Ranchi are good. But there are exceptions, and this is the work of some dirty people," JSCA president Amitabh Choudhary said.
"What is important is (to know) who are behind it and doing such dirty things?" the head of BCCI's Marketing Committee said, urging the police to find the culprit out.
A 1.5 feet by 2 feet glass was found broken in Dhoni's house following an alleged stone throwing incident and Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Saket Kumar Singh on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, the police are hesitant to come on record whether it was a stone throwing incident.
The police said Dhoni's family has not yet filed a complaint about the incident.
