The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held on Sunday evening in Los Angeles, recognised the best performances for the year in both, television and film.

Theodore Melfi's biographical film, 'Hidden Figures', took the top film honour, while American series, 'Stranger Things' and 'Orange Is the New Black', bagged the best ensemble wins in drama and comedy, respectively.

Almost all the winners pulled a Meryl Streep, using the platform to denounce US President Donald Trump's travel ban policy and the resultant widening gap between Americans and immigrants.

Ashton Kutcher welcomed guests by saying, "… and everyone in airports that belong in my America! You are part of the fabric of who we are, and we love you and we welcome you."

Upon winning best actress in a comedy series for Veep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus joked that whether the Russians "did or did not hack" this awards show, "this award is legitimate and I won. I'm the winner, the winner is me. Landslide!" Best male actor in a supporting role winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) too took to the stage to say, "There's the opportunity to see the texture of that person, the characteristics that make them unique, and then there's an opportunity to go to war about it and say that this person is different from me, I don't like you, let's battle."
