Did you know? Your humble vada pav seller might be a lakhpati

It was recently reported that some pav bhaji sellers in Mumbai have declared properties worth Rs 50 crore to the I-T dept. But, did you know that 45 per cent of street food vendors earn almost Rs 1 lakh per month?

It was recently reported in the media that some pav bhaji sellers in Mumbai have declared properties worth Rs 50 crore to the Income Tax department. But, did you know that 45 per cent of street food vendors earn almost Rs 1 lakh per month?


According to a report in businessinsider.in, a samosa wala, who sells samosa in office colonies of West Mumbai sells 4000 samosa a day. And, each samosa earns him a profit of Re 1. In addition, he also sells vada pav, noodles pakora and other fast food items. His per month income is approximately Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh per month.

But, this is not an isolated story. Businessinsider.in further reports that famous kebab sellers in Chandni Chowk, Delhi earn profit in the region of Rs 10,000 per day. Even the lime water sellers below metro stations in Delhi and NCR earn Rs 1500-Rs 2000 per day in peak summer.

Further, in Delhi and UP, ‘chhole batore’ makers are reported to sell 500 plates in a day. Their income is said to be in the region of Rs 1.5 lakh per month. Businessinsider.in further reports that a snacks seller in College Street area, Kolkata earns over Rs 1 lakh jut selling only chicken pakora, fish finger and cutlets.

So, the next time you visit a vada pav stall or a fast food joint, remember you may just be being served by a lakhpati.
