Heavy rains not only disrupted traffic on the roads and the schedules of trains, but also admissions to the degree college for Mumbai University (MU) for BA, BCom and BSc courses. The submission of admission forms for which the last day was yesterday, has now been further extended till June 11 till 1.30 pm.
Moreover, city colleges were supposed to come out with the first merit list yesterday by 6 pm, but will now display it today at 6 pm. Also, colleges across the city saw many students taking the day off due to the torrential downpour. Tukaram Shiware, chairman of Association of Non-Government College Principal Association (ANGCPA) and director of Hinduja College, said, “Our college was working, but we found many students absent. Due to heavy rain even the first merit list will come out on June 11 at 6 pm.”
Another principal, Harish Suvarna of Anjuman-E-Islam Hotel Management College, said, “The heavy rains disrupted everything. In our college 30 per cent of the students were absent. Railway officials said trains were late by 15 minutes but I myself was stuck in a train for more than an hour.” Schools claimed that not many students were absent in the classroom. But Anil Garg, chairman of Schoolbus Owners Association, said, “Most schools were open. But in many schools students got late by about 20 minutes due to waterlogging.”
A university official said that the date for submitting forms for admission to MU and its affiliated colleges has been extended till June 11 till 1.30 pm due to heavy rains. The admission schedule will be on the university website today. The link is www.mu.ac.in
