All his belongings, which included a bag and some papers, fell on the road.

When Kadam went to pick up the bag and papers, he found one document, which mentioned a certain jail. Intrigued, he opened the paper to read its contents.

“It was a parole paper from the Nashik Jail. The document named the person as Mohammed Hasan and gave details of the case when he had killed one D’Souza and murdered another person in 2005 in Tardeo,” said Zunjarao Garal, Senior Police Inspector of Marine Drive police station.

Earlier, Shaikh was arrested for the killing in Tardeo. Sent to Arthur Road Jail, he had murdered his associate John D’Souza in 2006 over an argument about filling water in the barracks.

He was later shifted to Nashik Jail.

Following the find, the Marine Drive police took Shaikh to JJ Hospital and got him admitted and treated.

After he had recovered from his injuries, he was handed over to the Nashik Jail authorities.

“Shaikh’s friend, who was riding pillion during the accident, also suffered injuries on his shoulder. However, he was discharged after preliminary treatment,” Kadam said.

Shaikh and his friend had come to Marine Drive from Mumbra to take a stroll along the seaside.

Having had their fill, they were all set to zip away from the location and were well over the speed limit when the bike hit the jeep. u00a0
