Twenty-six aspirants of the professional course and their parents, who were duped by a conman promising cent per cent marks in the COMED-K entrance examination, have also come under the scanner with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials terming them as abettors to the crime.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar, who is heading the CCB unit, they may not be charged under 420 (IPC section for cheats and frauds), but they definitely come under criminal procedure code 210, since it was them who wanted to score high marks using dubious means.
Soon after the scam was busted, students and their parents thronged CCB headquarters posing as victims and complained that they were duped
Soon after the scam was busted, the students and their parents thronged CCB head quarters posing as victims and complained that they were duped.
However, it is evident that they had paid lakhs of rupees to Rajgopal Reddy, who promised to provide question paper a day in advance and arranged a lodge to write the papers a day before the COMED-K exams.
We are contemplating booking even the victims under proper sections of the state Education Act to ensure such incidents do not reoccur he said, adding that the cops need to corroborate the exchange of money between them.
Regarding question paper scammer Reddy, Kumar stated that the police did not have his criminal record as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) handled the earlier case.
However, he refused to comment when asked whether there was a lack of coordination between the CBI and the city police.
Background
Reddy (60), was nabbed by CCB on Saturday along with two of his associates on charges of a fake question paper scam. He targetted out-station students through his agents who are placed across India.
Reddy guaranteed them cent per cent marks in entrance exams of professional courses to facilitate seats in top colleges in the state and collected large amounts of cash.
