Congress MLA Vinayak Nimhan criticised local Congress leaders who accompanied Suresh Kalmadi during the latter’s visit to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday. Nimhan claimed that his son Sunny was not in the picture, despite the fact that he was seated with other Congress leaders near Kalmadi at the PMC commissioner’s office during the press conference. Kalmadi had also introduced Sunny to the media representatives at the conference.

Nimhan not only criticised the Congressmen, but also party city president Abhay Chhajed, who supported Kalmadi’s visit to the PMC. Without naming Kalmadi, Nimhan said, “The corrupt leader spoils the name of Congress and the party high command should change Chhajed immediately. Congress had lost its glory due to a major set back in the recent municipal elections. Instead of analyzing the reasons behind the disaster, our people are committing the same mistake.”

Regarding his son’s presence, Nimhan said, “My son was in the PMC building, but not with Kalmadi.” Told that Sunny was sitting with Bagve near Kalmadi in the conference hall before the media representatives, Nimhan said the information was wrong. “Bagve forcibly held my sons hand and took him along,” he said.

While introducing his Congress colleagues, Kalmadi categorically pointed out to Sunny and informed the media that he came on behalf of his father. “Nimhan is out of Pune, therefore his son came,” Kalmadi said and even asked Sunny to come forward. A senior Congress leader, on the condition of anonymity, claimed that Kalmadi ‘managed’ the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for conducting agitation in PMC.

“This has made Kalmadi’s entry in the PMC more dramatic. Otherwise it would have been a simple programme to inaugurate the Sports Comm-ittee Office,” the source said. Vikas Mathkari, BJP city president, termed the allegation as foolish and funny. MNS leaders voiced similar opinion.u00a0u00a0
