One player was injured as on-field violence marred yesterday's Santosh Trophy National Football Championship quarter-final between Tamil Nadu and Mizoram at the Kalinga stadium. Tamil Nadu won the tie 4-3.

The fracas started in the 53rd minute after the referee sent off Mizoram defender Lal Chhawn Kima for handling the ball in the box and awarded a penalty to TN. The Mizos started abusing and manhandling the ref. As the TN players came to support the ref, the Mizos’ fury shifted to the opposition.

A fight broke out and Mizo player Lalbiakulua started bleeding from his nose. The fight continued for 10 minutes after which four players were sent off, two from TN and one from Mizoram.
