Waitress fails to recognise Brit PM, asks him to wait

With important places to be, you could forgive the Prime Minister for wanting to jump to the front of the queue.u00a0But one waitress wasn’t afraid to give British PM David Cameron a friendly ticking off when he failed to realise other customers were waiting ahead of him.

Cameron stopped off in Plymouth, Devon, to grab a hot drink and a sugary snack on his way to the city’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.u00a0He stunned locals by strolling into the Sandwich Box Plus cafe on Saturday morning in search of a takeaway coffee.

But Sheila Thomas, who was behind the counter, failed to recognise the British PM and told him she was busy serving other customers.u00a0After a ten-minute wait, Cameron’s aides popped in to next-door Warrens bakery to buy the peckish premier a jam doughnut and a cup of tea instead.

But Thomas was upset to see he had picked up his drink elsewhere and continued to give him a telling off.u00a0Sheila said, “I didn’t realise it was him at first. I was in the middle of serving a customer so I was running around trying to do something and didn’t take too much notice to be honest.”

She added, “He asked if we served takeaway coffee and I said, ‘Yes but I’m in the middle of serving somebody’ and he said, ‘I’m so sorry’. It was only afterwards that somebody told me it was the prime minister.”

Sheila, who is running the cafe while owner Annette Adaway enjoys a holiday, added, “He came back in afterwards and I told him off for not getting a coffee here. He shook hands and was very pleasant.”

Serving woes
It’s not the first time Cameron has been made to wait for a hot drink by a busy waitress. Last summer while on holiday with his family in Tuscany, a less-than-impressed Cameron was forced to carry a tray of drinks to his table when the waitress told him she didn’t have the time.

Cameron had asked the waitress, 27-year-old Francesca Ariani, if she would bring the drinks to a table outside where he was sitting with wife
Samantha.u00a0She snapped that she was too busy, leaving the British PM to do the job of delivering the cappuccinos to the terrace of the Dolcenero bar in Montevarchi.

British PM condemns soldiers’ murders
David Cameron has condemned the latest killing of British soldiers by an Afghan policeman. “I am deeply saddened that three British soldiers have been killed. My heart goes out to their families," the Prime Minister said.u00a0
