Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling consultant, Wasim Akram, who skipped IPL-VI for personal reasons, will again be seen in the KKR dugout if the team qualifies for the Champions League Twenty20. Akram had a big role to play KKR's IPL-V victory last year

Wasim Akram promises team: I'll be back for CLT20

According to all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla, the Pakistani ace has told the players that he would be with them if they make the CLT20 cut. “He has spoken to us and has confirmed his availability if we qualify for the Champions League T20,” Shukla said yesterday on the eve of IPL-VI opener against Delhi Daredevils at Eden Gardens.u00a0

“He wanted to spare some time for his family. He spoke to us before deciding to skip IPL-VI,” Shukla revealed.

KKR and India seamer Shami Ahmed said: “We are missing him. Wasimbhai has taught me a lot of things including the technical aspects of seam bowling.

Our mental strength is doubled if he is in the dugout. The most important thing he taught us, is how to keep cool in a crisis,” Shami said.

The seamer looked quite confident of gaining Akram’s guidance by qualifying for CLT20. “We hope to qualify for CLT20 and Wasimbhai will again be with us,” Shami added.

It may be recalled, it was Akram who predicted that Shami would go on to play for India during IPL-V.

Daredevils send jersey to cheer up Ryder
Delhi Daredevils thought of a unique way to cheer up their New Zealand recruit Jesse Ryder, who won’t be seen in action at the IPL-VI due to an ugly incident back home in Christchurch. The Delhi outfit has sent a team jersey signed by all players with ‘Get Well Soon’ written on it.

“It’s a nice gesture from our team. We all wanted him to play for us, but unfortunately he won’t be with us this time. We all wish him a speedy recovery and expect him to don our jersey next season,” Delhi Daredevils all-rounder Irfan Pathan told MiD DAY yesterday. u00a0
