The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) along with 500 personnel from the city police will be deployed during the 10-day period of celebration.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Additional Commissioner of police, Sadanand Date said all organisers had been warned that in case of any misbehavior against women being reported from their mandals, strict action would be initiated against the organisers. “We are doing our best but we need the support of 1.5 crore Mumbaikars. If they are vigilant it will become easier to fight against the antisocial elements,” he said.
Diversions
The number of roads that are to remain either shut through the day or at particular times during the day has increased from 61 last year to 94 this year. Traffic cops will apparently be seen on the streets with mega phones, helping motorists avoid traffic jams. Lifeguards with specially coloured fluorescent T-shirts will be deployed at all the beaches.
Joint commissioner of Police (Traffic), Vivek Phansalkar said, “Various sign boards will be put up on the streets directing people to the nearest diversion, in case a road is shut to traffic. Generally people are aware of the diversions. However announcements will be made and the traffic police equipped with walkie talkies to deal with heavy traffic.”
