Say the additional password rule will confuse, deter online shoppers
Web portals are anticipating loss in business because of the RBI's latest directive that asks for an additional authentication password from August 1 (see box).
Fearing that Indians may take time to get accustomed to the latest guidelines, some airlines and online portals have decided to introduce other means of transaction like cash delivery.

Sekhri has decided to provide cash delivery facility to users by tying up with the retail stores.
Pinching pockets
Praveen Meloth, assistant vice president, marketing, Travelguru.com, has been busy requesting his clients through e-mail to get the PIN number from their bank as soon as possible.

"We are helpless, as ours is an online portal and providing a cash delivery facility is impossible for us," said Meloth.
Travel portal Cleartrip.com has already put up a notice on their website asking users to get their PIN number while the transaction is on.
"The user will then be taken to the concerned bank's website to help them to get the password," said Tarique Khatri, vice president, business development, Cleartrip.com.u00a0
"It may pinch our pocket, but the RBI directive is for the users' benefit," he added.
Customers Say
"Some of my elderly family members only know that they have to put the password and the credit card number.

This additional step will confuse them," said 32-year-old Gaurav Talpade, who works with an ad agency.
Get a Password
Credit/debit card users will have to register online with their banks, giving their personal and card details.
They will then be given a PIN or password to be used as an additional layer of security during an online transaction.
Only the cardholder has this information. So, even if somebody notes your card number, he can't misuse it for online shopping.
