When Baroda took the field against Bengal for yesterday's Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 quarter-final, everyone present at the Bandra Kurla Complex was looking for Yusuf Pathan.

However, the all-rounder was not to be seen anywhere. It later emerged that Pathan was back in Baroda for his engagement party on Saturday.

The news of Pathan’s engagement with Mumbai girl Afreen had surfaced a few days ago. “Pathan left Mumbai on Friday as his engagement was at Nadiad, 55 kilometres from Vadodara,” a team source said yesterday.u00a0

The man himself though said that the engagement happened a while back, but it was just a family get-together on Saturday. However, he confirmed that he would be playing today’s semi-final against Delhi.u00a0

“I can confirm that I got engaged some time back. But as far as playing the semi-final against Delhi is concerned, I will be there before the match starts. I will land in Mumbai tomorrow morning and will go to the ground immediately,” Yusuf told MiD DAY from Baroda.

Afreen, who is originally from Mumbai, practises physiotherapy in Vadodara. It is learnt that both families were keen finish the engagement formalities at the earliest — in order to finalise the date of engagement for younger brother Irfan. “It won’t be a surprise if both Yusuf and Irfan get married on the same day,” the source said.

Both Yusuf and Irfan are expected to play in the Syed u00a0Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament u00a0against Delhi here today.
