What's so funny?

Move over Russell Peters, India's funnyman Vir Das is here. Having beaten Russell's record of the largest selling comedy tour ever in India with Walking on Broken Das, Vir is now gearing up to complete the last leg of his national tour, after which he heads on to a World tour with colleague Ashvin Gidwani. And he is all set to settle scores with our firangi counterparts by making them the butt of his jokes. He gets serious with CS:

LOL
I've been doing comedy since the last four years. Before that I had my hands busy with TV and corporate work. That's when I decided that I wanted to write my own show that would be as offensive as I wanted it to be. What I didn't expect was such a great response from the Indian audience. Indians have seen good and bad Hindi comedy. But when it comes to English humour, they've heard only the bestu00a0-- Eddie Murphy, Russell Peters, Robin Williams. So they're not going to appreciate any mediocrity in the name of English comedy. Being a huge fan of Russell Peters', I wanted to do what he did and more.

Jokes apart
My shows have a lot of shock value. People say that I am desi porn, immature, blah blah blah, and I accept that I am all of that. But I also know that I am intelligent and truthful enoughu00a0 to make people laugh. Different comedians have different hooks. Fortunately for me, impersonation was never my style. My brand of humour is observational. My content is very randomu00a0-- it could be sex, food, smilesu00a0-- anything. I talk about nothing, really. But my audience is instantly able to connect with me.

Going places
Luckily, I spend a lot of time in places like airports and hotels that are reservoirs of humour. Most of all, I live in a country that gives me enough fodder for my jokes. But having said that, it is unfortunate that for our foreign comedians we're only synonymous with snake charmers, the Kama Sutra and bullock carts. International humour can be very ego-centric. But, this is my time to take revenge as I start my international tour.u00a0u00a0
