Five days after lifting the world championship, Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg of Mercedes shocked the motor sports world with his sudden retirement on Friday.

The 31-year-old German had won his first world title on Sunday, beating Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by finishing second in the final race in Abu Dhabi.

Rosberg won nine of this season's 21 grands prix, beating three-time champion Hamilton by five points.

With Rosberg retiring, mid-day turns the clock back and recollects the time he had driven in India. The 2013 Indian GP, which was won by Sebastian Vettel, driving a Red Bull, had seen Rosberg finish second. Romain Grosjean came third for the Lotus team.

But it was a special experience for Rosberg since he got a taste of driving on Indian roads when he narrowly avoided an accident with a cow.

The Mercedes driver had shared his experience on Twitter and added that the incident wasn't unusual in India.

“Yikes! Just had to swerve on the motorway in India because a cow decided to cross over to the other side! #nothingunusual,” tweeted the 28-year-old German driver.
