Whistle-blower accuses Police of revolver theft

City-based bizman and activist, who was instrumental in exposing Kolar MLA in a scam, alleges that cops ransacked his house and beat up his kin; police rubbish the contention

A city-based businessman, who exposed Kolar MLA in a scam and has been leading Anna's Hazare's anti-graft crusade in Kolar district, has accused the police of ransacking his home, beating his kin and stealing his licenced revolver.

The cops on the other hand maintain that Hussain Mueen Farooq's brother is involved in criminal activities in Mumbai and that the allegations being made by have been concocted to avoid police action.

According to Farooq, policemen barged into the house claiming to be CBI sleuths and ransacked his house before taking away his revolver.

Farooq, who returned home early in the morning from a three-day padyatra -- covering a distance of 57 km from Kolar to the city -- in support of Hazare's movement and was fast asleep, woke up to the alleged police atrocity around 8 am.

"The police team barged into our home and when the building watchman and my family members tried to stop them from ransaking the house, they beat them up. I was woken by the commotion and when I went to see what was happening, they fled," Farooq said.

Farooq and his family members chased the group and managed to get hold of four self-styled CBI sleuths, following which they were taken to the High Grounds police station. On discovering that his licenced revolver was missing from home, Farooq filed a complaint with the High Grounds police.

Other side
Assistant Commissioner of Police H N Omkaraiah maintained that the incident was concocted.

"Farooq's brother Jeelani is involved in a cheating case in Mumbai. Following a complaint by a Mumbai businessman, a police team went to Farooq's house to inquire. Farooq apparently stage-managed the scene to look like the sleuths robbed his revolver to avoid police action."
