A day after mid-day reported that Sanjay Nirupam wants a say in appointments made in the district and blocks of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC), ex-MP Gurudas Kamat has said that he will not object to any appointments made by the MRCC president.
Sanjay Nirupam and Gurudas Kamat
Kamat, who is the general secretary of the All-India Congress Committee, claimed to have resolved all differences with Nirupam. “I will not interfere in any decisions of the MRCC president. Nirupam has freedom and authority to take decisions. I’m not against the president’s decision,” he said, adding that he has decided to concentrate on Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Restructuring at grassroot
Meanwhile, Nirupam is in the process of engineering the party structural reforms at the grassroots level. “I have restructured the lowest level blocks. Henceforth, each civic ward (there are 227 wards) will be treated as a block. This will help us in building our rank and file afresh,” he said. This exercise is important in view of the 2017 civic polls. “I want to have a spirited rank in place before the polls,” he said.
