Wife of 'Chandrakanta' director commits suicide

Anjali Agnihotri (42), wife of Sunil Agnihotri who directed television serial Chandrakanta and films like Jai Kishen and Daava, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday at her Mumbai residence.

Wife of 'Chandrakanta' director commits suicide

Wife of renowned Bollywood director Sunil Agnihotri allegedly committed suicide at their suburban Khar residence by consuming an overdose of drugs on Wednesday afternoon.


According to the police, Anjali Agnihotri had been mentally unstable for the past few months. The Khar police have registered a suicide case and awaiting post mortem report.


Sunil Agnihotri, better known as "king of television costume dramas" and directed the popular TV serial Chandrakanta as well as films like Jai Kishen and Daava, resided with his wife Anjali, 41, and two sons, Siddharth (21), and Adish (19), and mother at Remband society on Nargis Dutt road, Pali Hill.


The police found a suicide note near Anjali's corpse on the bed. The suicide note stated, "I love my both sons and my husband very much. I have to take such extreme because I don’t want to live such a life. For my suicide no one should be held responsible. I love you all.”u00a0

On Wednesday afternoon Siddharth who is pilot left for gym and only Anjali was present at house. At around 4pm in the evening Siddharth returned home and found his mother lying unconscious on the bed. He immediately informed his family members and rushed her mother to the local Hinduja hospital in Khar itself. However, the doctors declared her dead on admission. The Khar police was informed about the incident.

Police inspector Dilip Kale of Khar police station said, “We have found suicide note which stated no one should be held responsible. We have recovered many tablets near her bed where she was found dead. One of the bottles had around 8 out of 20 tablets missing which we suspect she might have taken. We are awaiting post mortem reports. The family members said she was mentally disturbed for quite some time.” u00a0u00a0
