Will Virender Sehwag be able to digest latest stomach bug?

A stomach bug at the 11th hour of the Irani Cup tie has only compounded the troubles for the struggling Virender Sehwag

Will Virender Sehwag be able to digest latest stomach bug?

It was surprising to see Harbhajan Singh walking out for the toss in place of Sehwag as Rest of India (RoI) took on Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday.

National selector Vikram Rathour, who is the coach of RoI here, told MiD DAY: “Sehwag has been vomiting and suffering from loose motions since morning.

Though it’s not serious, the doctor has prescribed a three-day course of medicines. We don’t know yet whether he will stay back or fly back home.”

The Irani Cup tie is a crucial game for Sehwag as far as getting his rhythm back before the Australia Test series (beginning on Feb 22) is concerned. Having missed out here, Sehwag will now go into the forthcoming Test series without any effective match practice.

Sehwag, who was not considered for the recent England ODIs, last played a competitive match against Pakistan in the January 3 Kolkata ODI. Though he has played a few T20s for his employers Reliance in the DY Patil T20 Cup recently, the swashbuckling batsman has hardly done anything noteworthy. Struggling with his form, Sehwag, who scored a century in the Ahmedabad Test against England and 49 in the Kolkata Test against the same opponent, hasn’t looked too convincing since.

With Gautam Gambhir too not playing any five-day game since the England ODIs, it remains to be seen whether the opening blues will continue to haunt Team India against the Australians.u00a0
