World class infrastructure and fool-proof security aren't the only concerns of the Commonwealth Games organisers. Food is right up there on the priority list.

The CWG Federation will serve region-specific cuisines during the Games

"When it comes to catering during the Games we are talking about preparing food for athletes from across the world. As per our initial estimates we are looking forward to serve about 40 lakh plates during the event," said an official on condition of anonymity.

The food would be provided to the players, officials, volunteers and the spectators who would come to the Games village to witness the events.

"It will be a round-the-clock dining service for more than 8,000 athletes and officials, 30,000 volunteers and technical officials. I am not sure about the number of plates or meals that would be cooked but it has to be huge in number," said official spokesperson, CWG Federation, Lalit Bhanot.

Meals for the sportspersons would have nutrition cards. Besides the calorific value of the food, the cards would

also display its nutritional content.

The menu has been segregated into six region-specific categoriesu00a0-- Africana, Caribbean, America, Oceanic, Europe and Indian. Stalls serving Indian cuisine would be called Indian Street Food, which would dish out various Indian delicacies prepared according to standards set by the Federation.

Meanwhile, the Federation is busy finalising the vendors in consultation with food and hygiene experts. Though there is limited clarity about the number of chefs and cooking staff required, sources said that would be left at the discretion of the caterers. "We have created clusters at different Games venues and the food would be prepared on site. The number of staff would be decided by the vendor depending upon the quantity and nature of food to be cooked and served," said the official.
