American skiing champion Lindsey Vonn has revealed how life was difficult for both Tiger Woods and her when they dated, and then how things got tougher as they split.

Vonn and Woods' three-year romance made global headlines, especially since it came on the back of a sex scandal that saw golf's former World No 1 Woods split from his wife Elin Nordegren. But, Vonn says she was always uncomfortable while dating woods given the global attention they attracted.

"It was really hard… the breakup, being together. It was essentially being in a fish bowl. Everybody's looking at you, judging you and commenting on what they think is right or wrong," Vonn tells America's E!News while promoting her new book Strong Is The New Beautiful.

The relationship had its positives too though, says Vonn. "It also made me stronger. Being able to block out the noise and block out other people's opinions, and honestly it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks as long as you're happy," she says.

Vonn and Woods split last year, but remain friends, insists the skier: "It's nice to be able to stay in touch with him though we are at different places in our lives."
