The police said she was married to a criminal on police records, Akash Pardeshi. They said the two met when both were serving a jail term in Yerawada prison some months ago. When they decided to get married, they also decided to execute house burglaries in the city together.

Akash has several cases of housebreaking registered against him at various police stations in the city. “On June 10, Usha burgled a locked flat in Akashdoot society in Kalyaninagar and made away with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Bansode said after the arrest yesterday.

u00a0“Today (Wednesday), our police inspector with the Crime Branch (unit IV), Arun Walture, received information that the woman would be coming to sell the ornaments to a jewellery shop in Yerawada. A team led by Walture laid a trap near the shop and arrested the woman with the stolen booty.”

Walture said Usha had first met her husband in Yerawada jail and, as they found they had a lot in common, they fell in love. “Usha Pardeshi is also known as Usha Adagale, and some months ago was sent to jail for a house burglary in Yerawada, where she met Akash Pardeshi, who was also lodged in the prison under the same charges,” Walture said. “Their acquaintance turned into a love affair as their aim, which is housebreaking, was the same and they vowed to get married after their release.”

The officer said the two often worked as a team. “After both were released, they got married and started living at Yeshwantnagar in Yerawada and often used to go on house burglary missions together,” Walture said.
