Elisa Sampson – winner of the 2010 World Gravy Wrestling Championships – was stunned to see Sabina English and mutual friend Paul Greenwood having sex on her living-room couch.
Trouble flared when she shouted: “What are you doing?”
An angry Greenwood, 33, got up and grabbed Sampson round the throat and pushed her into the doorway, a court heard
Single mum English, 32, then jumped up and hit her with the wrench which was lying on the floor.
Fellow party guest and English’s brother Amjad Hussain also punched Sampson in the face several times.
“The victim fought back to some extent but ended up on the floor, in pain and aware that her eye was seriously injured,” the a major newspaper quoted prosecutor Martin Snowden as saying.
She suffered two fractures around her eye and a gashed lid, needing 17 stitches.
It resulted in a “deformity” and long-term vision problems.
Laundry worker English admitted grievous bodily harm and was jailed for two years.
The other three fled after the attack and the victim sought help from a neighbour who called 999.
“This was her best friend. They did everything together. Unfortunately, they had been drinking,” English’s barrister, Ken Hind, said.
Hussain, 27, also of Stacksteads, was jailed for a year after admitting assault.
Greenwood, of Bacup, was earlier jailed for three months.
