Kamala Swain, 45, was killed on Sunday after her husband had filed an FIR against the four persons who had allegedly passed lewd comments against their school-going daughter.

According to media reports, the accused and his associates had passed objectionable comments to the girl after which her parents lodged a complaint with Polasara police.

The accused and his friends attacked the girl's father and mother on Sunday when the duo were working at a crop field. Though the father of the girl managed to escape from the spot, the goons allegedly thrashed the girl's mother with an iron rod which led to her death.

The woman, who was rescued in a critical condition, was admitted to hospital where doctors declared her dead.

This angered the people in the village which attacked the Polasara police station in Ganjam district after police failed to arrest four persons who allegedly killed a woman for daring to protest against an eve-teasing incident at a remote village.

The mob blocked a road near the police station and demanded arrest of the persons involved in the killing of Swain.

They paraded Swain's body and went on a rampage inside the police station. They even attempted to assault the sub-divisional police officer, Purushottampur, among others, the police said.

The mob set afire vehicles parked outside the police station including a car and four motorbikes. They also damaged computers, almirahs, tables and chairs.

Senior police officers, including Inspector General of police, southern range Amitabh Thakur, SP (Ganjam) Asish Singh, collector P Ch Chaudhary went to the spot. "The situation is under control. The body was sent for post mortem at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, the IG said.

Two platoons of police forces and several officers were deployed to keep the situation under control, the police said adding that they had identified some in the mob.
