The woman, identified as Nirali Solani, tried to make a getaway but was intercepted by the traffic police and handed over to Bhoiwada police.

The victim, Narendra Naik (42) was taken to KEM hospital, where doctors said that he had sustained several internal injuries, along with a fractured leg and a head injury.

Solani was charged under Sections 279 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving. However, she was later released on bail from the police station after paying Rs 10,000. A resident of Chembur, Solani is an MCom student and also holds a computer degree. According to police Sub-inspector Avinash Jagtap of Bhoiwada police station, Solani was heading towards Byculla with her mother and sister. At 3 pm, they were near the Parel bridge.

“Naik was crossing the bridge and did not notice the car coming. Solani could not stop in time, due to which Naik was knocked down,” Jagtap said.

As a crowd gathered around the scene, Solani escaped. Bhoiwada police immediately rushed to the spot and rushed Naik to KEM hospital. Traffic police intercepted Solani at the next signal.

“Solani’s advocate came later and she was released on bail of Rs 10,000,” Jagtap added.

Naik passed in and out of consciousness throughout the day. Police said that Naik’s CT scan was done and he would be taken for an MRI as well. He also needs surgery. u00a0
