An online lottery scam has claimed another victim with a New Delhi resident losing Rs 4 lakh after being lured by the fraudsters.
A New Delhi resident has fallen victim to an online lottery scam, losing Rs 4 lakh in the process.
The victim, who is a woman living in the capital’s posh Parliament Street area, was trapped by the fraudsters with the lure of Rs 50,000 pounds. The victim was told she had won a RBI-organised lottery worth Rs 50,000 pounds and needed to deposit Rs 9 lakh as processing fee to claim the amount.

She had deposited Rs 4 lakh in four instalments in the account number provided to her in the ‘official’ e-mail. “However, after depositing the amount when she tried to contact the person on his number sh didn’t get any response. When repeated attempts failed to elicit any repose, she filed a police complaint,” said a police official.
“The victim told us that she had received a mail a couple of days back informing her that she had won a lottery organised by Reserve Bank of India. She was told to pay a processing fee of Rs 9 lakh following which she could claim the lottery amount,” the police said.
A case has been registered and the police is investigating the incident.
