An unidentified woman’s highly decomposed body was found at Fatherwadi near Vidya Vikas High School and Jr College in Vasai yesterday afternoon.
According to police sources, the body was found by a group of boys, who were playing cricket yesterday afternoon inside the Vidya Vikas High School and Jr College. One of them hit the ball, which went outside the boundary wall and into a field behind it.
It landed at the spot where the body was lying. Soon, locals gathered there and informed the police. The Valiv police reached the spot and after doing necessary panchanama, sent the body for an autopsy.
“The body is yet to be identified. Its age would be around 20 to 25 years. It was found in the nude and was in a highly decomposed condition. There were wounds around the neck and on the body. We have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code against an unknown accused. The related section of rape will be entered if the post-mortem confirms it,” said Anil Aakde, Deputy Superintendent of Vasai and Palghar.
He added, “We have taken photos of the body and sent them to the surrounding police stations. We are also checking recently registered complaints of missing women at Palghar and Thane districts, as well as Mumbai.”
