Woman survives suicide jump from Sangam Bridge

A 30-year-old woman escaped with minor injuries after she tried to kill herself by jumping off the Sangam bridge into the Mula-Mutha river at 4.30 pm yesterday

The woman identified as Sangeeta Kailas, a resident of Sangvi, hurt her shoulder and has been admitted to Sassoon hospital for treatment, said traffic police officers Kishor Sangle and Ashok Tate, who were part of the rescue effort.

Sangeeta had come to the bridge along with her two children Mamata (7), and Rahul (3). She abandoned her children on the bridge before leaping into the river.


Noticing something unusual happening, local residents Deepak Sawant, Santosh Tate, Shivaji Rithe, Mobin Shaikh and Vitthal Shinde, with the help of traffic police posted nearby, rushed torescue her.

Since the woman and her children are frightened, police said they did not speak and share information about the incident yet. The reason behind the act was unclear till late evening.u00a0
