Savitri Devi, a resident of Maharashtra's Akola and her accomplices, Lakhveer Singh, Shivram and Biraji Lal, belonging to Madhya Pradesh were arrested Monday in Bundi, some 200 km from Jaipur.
"Complainant Bihari Lal Meghawal had registered a first information report with police that she married him a week ago and was trying to run away with cash when he caught her," a police officer told IANS. He added that Savitri's three accomplices had played the role of mediators when the marriage was arranged.
"After lodging the FIR, we came to know that a racket of duping bachelor men was active in the area," the officer said adding that it has come up during preliminary investigation that Meghawal had paid the three men Rs.50,000 for the marriage. "The woman has duped at least a dozen men in various parts of the country by marrying them and then disappearing with cash and other valuables soon," said the officer. Police have seized some jewellery from them. "Some others involved in the racket have also been identified. We are trying to nab them," said the officer.
