In the survey, children claim that their mothers are better drivers than their fathers -- it is not just their driving that makes women best, but because they have better in-car entertainment. Four in 10 children say they feel safer with their mother at the wheel during a rush-hour journey to the shops or the school gate, according to the survey. Fathers are seen as risk-takers by seven in 10 children who think they are more likely to speed, suffer from road rage and have the most near-misses with other vehicles, the 'Daily Express' reported.

The Budget car hire firm, which polled 1,000 children between the ages of six and 15, revealed that the majority of children prefer their mother at the wheel because she plays better music (37 per cent), joins in car games (26 per cent) and tells jokes (24 per cent) more often than their father.
Keeping children involved throughout the journey goes hand-in-hand with them feeling safe, with children preferring mum driving (40 per cent) to dad (26 percent) for this reason. Sixtyeight per cent of children believe dad is more likely to have an accident than mum. They also believe their dads are more likely to speed (71 per cent), be fined more often (70 per cent) and take the most risks (72 per cent). But while mothers may be the drivers of choice, children say fathers are better at reversing (64 per cent) and parking (61 per cent).
