World No 1 Caroline Wozniacki admitted poor decision-making caused her to suffer a shock defeat to Germany's Andrea Petkovic in the fourth round of the Miami Open yesterday.

Petkovic, 23, posted an impressive 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Wozniacki, who landed the Indian Wells title earlier this month.

Wozniacki took a philosophical view of the setback, the 20-year-old saying: "I have been playing a lot of matches, but I have been doing so well. Today I took the wrong decisions at the important moments. That's what happens sometimes."

She added: "I'm not going to dig a hole for myself or dig a grave. I will just take a few days of rest."

Seeded 21st, Petkovic toppled the top-ranked Dane in their last-16 clash after imposing a carefully prepared game plan on her opponent. Petkovic said: "Most of the players think they can overpower Caroline. That's the wrong approach. That's where she's the most comfortable, when she can run and bring balls back. And then once you lose your concentration, she goes for it.

"If you try to hit every single shot with full power, she just gets more comfortable, and eventually you're going to miss. She's not going to miss. What I tried to do was mix it up and make her play, then when I had the short ball, go for it."

Petkovic goes on to face Serbian sixth seed Jelena Jankovic who was a comfortable 6-1 6-3 winner over Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues.
