An Yanshi bought 11 tons of excrement from a panda breeding centre in Sichuan province and used it to grow tea leaves costing 22,000 pounds per pound.u00a0

The 41-year-old entrepreneur has revealed that panda poo is the key ingredient to a new luxury brew.u00a0

So far there have been no takers for the unusual product that comes accompanied by a special panda-shaped tea set and two wildlife paintings.u00a0

His method remains a closely guarded secret, but he promises drinkers they can expect 'a mature and nutty taste'.u00a0

The tea is also being heralded for its health properties as the excrement is enriched with nutrients from bamboo, which is a major food source for the bear.u00a0

"Pandas have a very poor digestive system and only absorb about 30 per cent of everything they eat," the Daily Mail quoted Yanshi as saying.u00a0

"That means their excrement is rich in fibres and nutrients.u00a0

"Just like green tea, bamboo contains an element that can prevent cancer," he added.u00a0

He is now hoping to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for developing the most expensive tea.u00a0

For a taste of the first harvest, expected to go on sale this spring, customers will be expected to pay 22,000 pounds per pound, and less for subsequent batches.

Yanshi, who has patented his bizarre idea, said he is hoping to target nature lovers and wealthy foodies.
