An 8-year-old girl died after she fell into a five-feet deep open trench at Thatawade on Wednesday last week.
The deceased was playing near the trench behind an ice cream shop and accidentally landed in the ditch, which was not covered properly.
Ice cream shop owner, Ganesh Pukhaji Chaudhari, a resident of Tathawade, has been booked under IPC 304 (A) and a case has been registered with Hinjewadi police station.

The girl, who was a resident of Kala Khadak area near Wakad was identified as Sakshi Maruti Aalakunte. Her mother, Lalita , who works as a labourer at a construction site near the shop, lodged a complaint with the police station.
“On April 10, Aalakunte and her elder daughter Sakshi had lunch and soon Aalakunte realised that her daughter stepped out of the shop. She went looking for Sakshi, soon someone informed Aalakunte that her daughter had fallen into an open trench behind the ice cream shop” said D T Jagdale, police sub inspector of Hinjewadi police station, who is investigating the case.
She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. “When we investigated the matter further we came to know that the drainage repair for the ice cream shop was being carried out and no safety measures were taken by the owner. Considering this we have lodged a complaint against the owner,” Jagdale added. u00a0
