A 25-year-old biker injured a traffic constable by pushing him off his bike when the latter was riding him to the traffic police station for not carrying valid documents.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 1.30 pm after Harpreetsingh Surendrasingh Saluja was asked to pull over for talking on his cell phone by a routine traffic police team at Poultry Chowk in Khadki.
After being asked to produce documentation for the vehicle, the biker was unable to produce the papers. Constable Vinayak Dagdu Tarpe then asked him to ride pillion with him to the Khadki traffic division, where he is attached.
A scared Saluja then allegedly pushed Tarpe from his bike after riding for a few metres. This caused injuries to Tarpe on his right hand and left foot. Tarpe managed to catch Saluja since the bike had also slowed down after he fell. Saluja lives near Deepbangla Chowk on Senapati Bapat Road.
PSI S K Gaikwad from the Khadki police station said Saluja rode recklessly after pushing Tarpe off in frantic bid to escape. "We have booked him under Sections 353 and 279 of the IPC for obstruction of duty of a government official and rash driving respectively. Several sections of the Motor Vehicle Act have also been added since he was not carrying vehicle papers," Gaikwad said.
