It's a day of permutations and combinations and sombre stuff. MiD DAY brings you some light moments from behind the scenes on the campaign that was

Close contest

It's the most unpredictable elections of all and politicians agree. Clean sweeps, straight contests and triangular fights have been common, but never before has the contest seemed so close.

Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Independents have played spoilsport for many sure-shot winners.

The talking point among pollsters yesterday was that Shiv Sena's rustic Mohan Rawle could really give the suave Milind a run for his money.

Both harped on the 26/11 tragedy that brought SoBo down on its knees, both promised better security.

But townies seemed unimpressed with a dismal voter turnout of 43.33 per cent. So is it going to be Milind or Mohan? It's anybody's guess!

Ayyo, Ram-a

There is no defeating Priya Dutt, that's what political experts believe. Nevertheless. BJP's Mahesh Jethmalani went that extra mile to woo voters.

When they stumbled upon a large population of Tamilian voters in Kurla, they almost learnt their lingo. Overnight pamphlets were made in Tamil and distributed among the voters.

Jethmalani definitely won a few hearts here.

Jo jeeta wohi sikandar

Everybody loves the winner. And the Mumbai police are no exception.

Today, once the winner is announced the special branch cops will abandon the loser.

The entire force will be deployed in the areas that house the victorious candidates to keep any eye on mischief mongers if any. That's the order of the day

Wah Raj!

Though Raj Thackeray managed to pull crowds in Mumbai and elsewhere, his opponents didn't think twice before saying that it was one thing to attract people and quite another to make them vote for you.

The Raj factor hit them in the face only on May 12 and 13, when during the stocktaking exercise, candidate after candidate told their senior leaders how the MNS seemed to have wooed a large chunk of their vote bank.

Rumour mills started whirring a few days back that the MNS which was not expected to win a single seat in the state could actually pack off Chhagan Bhujbal's nephew and NCP candidate from Nashik Sameer Bhujbal.

Now, getting Sallu, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon to add that dash of glamour for his road shows doesn't seem to have worked.
