Emerges unhurt after ramming his car into a stationary truck
A young driver had a narrow escape after his car rammed into a stationary truck on the Katraj-Warje bypass near Ambegaon around midnight.
Eyewitnesses said Sidhhartha Kumar, who is in his twenties, lost control of his vehicle and rammed head-on into the truck. The impact of the crash left the car's hood mangled but Kumar managed to escape without serious injuries.
While Kumar's friend told MiD DAY that he had missed the truck in the dark, Kumar tried to mislead the reporter initially. "I don't know whose car this is. The driver fled the spot and I just stopped to see what was going on," he said. However, he accepted that he was driving the car after his friend intervened.
Rejecting Kumar's claims of not seeing the truck, an eyewitness said, "After the truck driver realised that his fuel tank was empty, he informed us and we put tyres and other obstacles to alert oncoming traffic."
The Highway Police vehicle reached the spot and erected fibre cones to avoid further accidents. No police case has been registered.
