After remaining unbeaten on 306 at the end of the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka, Pakistan skipper Younis Khan had made his intentions clear to have a go at Brian Lara record (400 not out) of the highest individual score in an innings.

However, the stylish batsman faltered half an hour into the last day's play when he was bowled through the gate by Sri Lanka's paceman Dilhara Fernando. Younis marathon innings of 313 runs lasted for 836 minutes. Off the 568 balls he faced, he hit 27 boundaries and four sixes.

He was dismissed when Pakistan, chasing Sri Lanka's first innings score of 644 for 7 declared, were 596 for five. With draw being the only possible outcome of the match, the rest of the day's play has become a sort of a formality for both the teams.
