Blame it on the Enid Blyton hangover. But as kids, most of us dreamt of hosting tea parties, with delightful Gingerbread Cookies and creamy cupcakes sitting pretty on a plate, as one sipped on steaming cups of tea, inside a lush, wooded forest.

While some of us have let those fantasies die a slow death, sisters Tarini Naravane and Ekta Naravane Parpia, owners of catering company Everyday Gourmet, decided to hold on to the dream and make it

a reality.

Like a scene from Alice in Wonderland, we wound our way through a maze of cottages to knock at the duo's humble abode, located in the lane, opposite Bandra's Elco Market.u00a0 Tarini (30) and Ekta (28) invite us into cake and cookie kingdom, even as we feast our eyes on the mouth-watering spread ufffd baskets filled with cookies, cakes and jams, gift wrapped with pretty blue and red ribbons.

Chocolate cake

Tarini and Ekta take their baking seriously. We are drawn into an animated discussion with the sisters, while they narrate their love affair with these baked delights, from the ingredients that create the magic to their hours of labour in the kitchen.

It's clear that the two are passionate about cooking and taking it beyond the usual stuff found in bakeries. Observing the duo cook up a storm comes close to watching popular British food writer and celebrity bake expert, Nigella Lawson, in action.

The origins of the divine Pound Cake are revealed ufffd "traditionally, it was made with a pound of each of flour, butter, eggs, and sugar," they inform, adding that their version, the Orange Pound Zest is a best selling bake from their stable.

Their best seller, the Carrot-Apple Cake

Soon, the chat veers to the family's fixation with cooking. Tarini oscillates between the past and present, reminiscing about her mother's culinary feats including regularly whipping up feasts for 200 odd guests as their father served in the Indian Army. With cooking being such a passion in the family, it was only natural for the siblings to translate this into a commercial enterprise.

Ekta adds, "We have not been to cooking school. Our recipes are tried and tested at home. We attempt to work with ingredients, understanding flavours and combinations to put together a menu that appeals to different tastes.

Their long list of goodies includes Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Ginger-Walnut Shortbread, Carrot-Apple Cake, Orange Zest Pound Cake, Super Chocolate Cookies, Fig-Orange Jam and cookies made of different combinations including Oatmeal-Walnut and Oatmeal and Apple Raisin.

Tarini shares that the Carrot-Apple Cake is the most popular item, while their fresh fruit jams also have their loyal following. They rattle off a variety of flavours including Orange-Apricot, Plum and Strawberry, Apple-Prune Cinnamon (sugar-free jam), Four Fruits (mixed fruit jam) and Mango-Pineapple.

The duo enjoy catering for tea parties and events, if booked ten-days in advance and also accept orders for their range of goodies, and need a minimum of 2 to 3 days to prepare the same.

How much dough will you have to shell out?
