Making a short film from scratch, in 48 hours, might sound daunting, but if you’re up for the challenge, sign up for Mumbai 48 Hour Film Project
The 8th edition of the Mumbai 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is back, starting tomorrow until, October 11. The 48HFP claims to be the world’s largest time-bound short film competition, and will be held in 140 cities worldwide. The Mumbai leg will flag off at the Western Express Highway metro station. Teams will have to script, shoot, edit, and submit a short in just 48 hours. The 48HFP is organised in India by Yogi Chopra and Preeti Gopalkrishnan in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, with Bangalore following suit.
Winners of the Hyderabad 48 Hour Film Project (2012), their film made it to Cannes Short Film Corner
To ensure that the film is actually made in 48 hours, the theme will be assigned to the teams on Friday itself. The organisers will also reveal three surprise elements that have to be incorporated in the film. Films submitted even a few seconds late will be disqualified. Teams can create original soundtracks, buy or borrow music provided they have the rights to use it, or use stock music for their films.
The films created over the weekend will be screened at Bahar theatre, Andheri (W) the following week. The winning film gets
Rs 25,000, and the top shorts will also be featured on MTV Indies. “See their hard work air on a TV channel will certainly excite our teams. We hope this brings out the best talent from India’s film hub. The chosen films will also be screened in the US and the top 10 short films from the world will be screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner,” informs Gopalkrishnan.
