Three days later, he cleaned out her house of valuables and fled. Cops said they are investigating if the accused had used the same tactic to dupe other women. Singh had been chatting with the woman since January, 2012. On August 18, he told her he was going to come to Mumbai, and convinced her to allow him to stay with her in her house.
“He said he had some official work in Mumbai and didn’t have a place to stay. So I allowed him as a guest in my house. But after three days, on August 21, he vanished with all my jewellery. He then called me up and threatened that if I didn’t shell out another Rs 20,000, he would tarnish my image by telling everyone that I slept with him,” the victim told MiD DAY.
The woman filed a complaint at the Samta Nagar police station. She also approached a social worker, Mohan Krishnan, for help. Krishnan wrote to the Mumbai police commissioner who ordered the local cops to register an FIR.
Said Krishnan, “She approached me a few months ago. She was very scared. After I sent a letter to the commissioner, he ordered the Samta Nagar police to file an FIR and investigate the matter.” Singh was arrested in Haryana and brought to Mumbai yesterday. In his statement to the police, he said he worked as a software engineer in a leading company in Mumbai in 2011.u00a0
