26 year old from Dharavi shoots woman in the head, then her grandson, before killing himself
On Saturday, a 26 year-old youth shot a 53 year-old woman and her 18 year-old grandson, before turning the gun on himself in Dharavi, reportedly because of a failed love affair.
The incident took place at 4.50 pm at Shashtri Nagar in Dharavi's Gajanan Colony, when the accused Akhtar Khan fired a round into Rajjan Malkhan Karotia's forehead. Karotia was popularly known as Rani in the area, and is the president of the Congress party in the locality.
She was reportedly chatting with a few women close to her home when Khan attacked her. The accused then reportedly strode into Karotia's house and fired another round at her grandson Krishna Manoj Karotia. Karotia, however, survived the attack, as the bullet hit his right shoulder.
Khan then reportedly fled from the spot and attempted suicide nearby. According to police officials, Khan was reportedly in love with a relative of Karotia's. They had planned to get married, but Karotia did not approve of the match, and arranged her match with another man. When contacted, Vineet Agrawal, additional commissioner of police, confirmed the news, saying, "This happened because of a love affair."
Karotia and Khan were declared dead, while Krishna is undergoing treatment.
