Rahul Mali, a 22 year-old student of Vasai Medical College who was missing since the day three blasts hit the city, returned home safe last week.
Mali, a resident of Haranwadi, had been missing for nine days since three blasts rocked Mumbai on July 13. He returned home safe on Friday evening.
Mali left his home on July 13 saying he was going to college and would return at the usual time. After he failed to show up till late that day, his family got worried. They were unable to get in touch with their son, leading them to assume the worst. They suspected he had been injured in the serial blasts that occurred in Kabootar khana in Dadar, Zaveri Bazar and Opera House on the evening of July 13.
The family registered a missing person's complaint at the Satpati police station in Thane district the following morning, and visited hospitals where blast victims had been admitted.
Officials at the Satpati police station said, "Mali's family said he was not interested in academics and bunked college often. His family was worried and kept returning to the police station to find out if we had received information about him."
The Satpati police quizzed residents of Haranwadi and realised that Mali did not attend college on July 13.
On his return, Mali told his family that had taken a train to Gujarat and was there for the past nine days.
Mali remained unavailable for comment.
