Close kin of additional commissioner of I-T went for a walk at night; cops are probing whether it was suicide, murder or accident
In what is a puzzling case for cops, the 28-year-old sister-in-law and three-and-half-year-old niece of Addl Commissioner (I-T) Dinesh Singh were found dead next to the tracks near Nilje railway station, about 3 km from their residence in Dombivli (E), early last morning.
Assistant Sub-inspector Kishore Koli of Thane GRP said, "Neetu Singh left her residence with her daughter, Ishita around 9.30 pm for a walk.
Her husband Sunil came home from work and got worried when they did not return by 11 pm. When he could not locate them, he filed missing persons' report with Manpada police." The Manpada police and Sunil, carried out a nightlong search.
Police Inspector P Chavan of Thane GRP said, "At 6.30 am on Friday, they reached Nilje station, where a constable told them about an accident involving a woman and a child at 11 pm the previous night. Sunil rushed to Thane municipal hospital and identified their bodies."
'Will keep bodies'
Sources claimed that despite phone calls made to senior officers, the Thane GRP refused to release the bodies until they rule out all suspicions. Said Chavan, "Neetu had given a call to Sunil around 2 pm. He claims he did not notice anything amiss in her behaviour. However, we will investigate all angles; whether it was a suicide, an accident or murder."
He added, "We will also investigate Neetu's mental state before her death and her relations with her husband and in-laws. We are waiting to record the statement of her brother who stays in Hyderabad. Only after all investigations are over will we let the family perform the last rites."
Said Sunil, "I am too shocked to say anything." Baby, Dinesh Singh's wife, said, "I am shocked about what has happened with my sister and her baby but I do not doubt her in-laws or husband; they are very good people."
