Yuki Bhambri goes down to Tipsarevic

Top seed Janko Tipsarevic easily got past Yuki Bhambri the last surviving Indian hope 6-1, 6-3 in 62 minutes at the Chennai Open here yesterday.

Young talent: Yuki Bhambri

The wide gulf in rankings between the two was apparent as World No 9 Tipsarevic had an easy time in the first set making the World No 345 Indian, winner of the 2009 Australian Open junior title,u00a0 scamper around the court.
Bhambri seemed overawed by the occasion as he started off nervously, making a host of unforced errors. It may have been expected considering it was the first time he was facing a Top 10 player.u00a0

Later however, having relaxed a bit, Bhambri pulled off some good winners and even had Tipsarevic under a bit of pressure at 0-30 at 1-1 in the second set. However, Tipsarevic recovered to break Bhambri's serve aided by two double faults from the Indian.

After the match Tipsarevic, who, coincidentally, has also won the Australian Open junior title (2001) said he saw promise in his young opponent and hoped he's get better with time.

When asked about the experience of playing a Top 10 player,u00a0 Bhambri said: "It was great especially considering he felt that there was not a great deal of difference between the twou00a0 of us particularly in the second set.u00a0 My aim in future is tou00a0 be able to play in the main draw of Grand Slams by breaking into the Top 100."
