Right from the initial period of his struggle to his recovery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stood by the hero of India's 2007 World Twenty20 and 2011 ICC World Cup campaigns ufffd Yuvraj Singh

The stylish left-hander last played for India in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka in Mumbai following which it was revealed that he was suffering from a rare germ cell cancer and underwent treatment in USA. However, he has recently revealed his intentions of making a comeback for September’s World T20 in Sri Lanka and the selectors seem more than happy to welcome the move.

Yuvraj is set to feature in the list of 30 probables for the World T20 to be played from September 18 to October 7 in Sri Lanka. Though the selectors have already picked the probables soon after they selected the 15-member squad for the five ODIs and one Twenty20 in Sri Lanka later this month, they have yet to announce the same.

“The probables were picked a few days back, but it wasn’t announced. We will announce it shortly. The Board is expected to stand by Yuvraj when he needs support and that’s what we are doing. After all, he’s been instrumental in two of India’s major victories — World T20 and World Cup,” a BCCI source told MiD DAY yesterday.

It is learnt that the selectors have even advised the Punjab southpaw to play a few pre-season tournaments like the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Invitational, Buchi Babu tournament and Moin-ud Dowla Gold Cup in order to be in the reckoning for the mega event.

“He may be in the 30, but whether he will be in the final 15 or no will be decided at an appropriate time,” a selector said yesterday without divulging details.
The left-hander is expected to turn out for Punjab in the season’s first tournament organised by KSCA from
July 27.

Yuvraj has already hit the nets and spends almost six hours a day on general fitness training and batting.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is also likely to feature in the initial list for the World T20. The off-spinner, who is currently playing county cricket in England for Essex, will be closely monitored though.

A few youngsters like Mandeep Singh, Akshay Darekar and Shami Ahmed alongside seasoned campaigners in Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Munaf Patel, Murali Vijay are also expected to make the initial grade. u00a0
