Hockey striker Yuvraj Walmiki is all set to take up employment with Mumbai Super League's defending champions Central Railway (CR) next month on his return from Germany, where he is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with TGF Frankenthal.
Walmiki has previously played for CR and was instrumental in their 3-2 win over Indian Navy in the Super League finale recently, but was hesitant to sign a contract as he was unsure of his nature employment.

Yesterday, Walmiki confirmed he would be joining the Mumbai outfit as he was satisfied with the offer. “CR have offered me a Class-III job of a ticket collector with a higher basic pay. I had requested them to provide accommodation and they have kindly agreed to this too, so I’m happy to join them,” Walmiki told MiD DAY from Germany yesterday.
It’s not just the job offer, but a good team too, that has lured the 22-year-old forward. “CR have got some good players on board like junior striker Affan Yusuf (who emerged as the best player at the Hockey India Senior National Championship in Pune earlier this year), besides my brother Devendra (Walmiki). They are also offering my cousin Anoop Walmiki a contract. We will have a very good team once we start gelling together,” added Walmiki.
CR manager Javed Sayed admitted he has been chasing Walmiki for quite some time. “I have been after Yuvraj to join us for the last three years, but he is young and was probably looking at joining bigger teams like Air India or Customs.
“But I’m glad that he has finally decided to come to CR. I have emailed the job application forms to him and once he reverts, I will take things forward to my officers in-charge. We are planning to build a good young team this season and Yuvraj will definitely be an asset to our side,” said Sayed.
