Zambian woman with drugs worth Rs 6 cr held at Mumbai airport

On May 23, Custom officials at Mumbai Airport nabbed a Zambian woman carrying six kilograms of drugs worth nearly Rs 6 crore, an official said.

The woman, identified as Mphakati Alice, had concealed the drugs in her luggage. She was checking in for an Ethiopian Airlines Flight to Lilongwe via Addis Ababa.

An examination of her luggage revealed 6 kg of drugs containing a white coloured powder purported to be amphetamine.


In the statement given by the woman, recorded under section 67 of the Narcotics Department and Psychotropic Act, 1985, she admitted possession, carriage and concealment of drugs.

The woman passenger has been arrested and further investigations are in progress.
